The Gibraltar Health Authority (GHA) School of Health Studies (SHS) exists to provide pre and post registration education, training and development designed to meet current and future service needs. The work of the School is overseen by the Principal and is managed operationally by the Head of School, working closely with Clinical Nurse Managers and senior staff in meeting the needs of service users. As part of this strategy the SHS ensures that all education, training and staff development activity is directed at:
- Improving the quality of care provided to the GHA's service users.
- Ensuring that the GHA sources future staffing needs from appropriately qualified and trained individuals.
- The School of Health Studies in conjunction with Kingston University London and St George's University of London provide a local delivery a variety of degree level health and social care studies. Including the BSc (Hons) in Nursing (Adult), and a BA (Hons) Social Work.
- The SHS also provides education for post registration nurses and professions allied to medicine at undergraduate and post graduate levels within the GHA.
The SHS provide the Enrolled Nurse training programme. This programme has been run every two years and at QCF Level 3, alternating with the BSc (Hons) in nursing programme. However, as from September 2018 the Enrolled Nurse will change from a QCF L3 to a Diploma Higher Education and run concurrently with the BSc (Hons) Nursing programmes.
A part of the commitment to learning and development and developing their own talent, the GHA in conjunction with Salford University offer the MSc in Leadership and Management in Health Care tailored to meet the needs of the GHA. The programme combines academic rigor with practical application to create dynamic, forward thinking health service managers who will excel in this field.
